We have a vibrant village where so many people work tirelessly for the good of others and many deserve some tangible award, although every one of them would say they expect nothing in return for what they do.
It's been some time since anyone from our village has been recognised nationally. I think the last was dear old Duncan Pigg who got a British Empire Medal. Before that my mate Mel Perkins received an MBE and Dr Anne Edwards a BEM for her work on the Ash Dieback Disease in trees.
I was pleased to see that Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow were made CBEs in recognition of their work on behalf of the Motor Neurone Disease Community. Sinfield should have been given a knighthood but those seem to be reserved for business people.
I am by and large a supporter of the honours' system but more should be handed out to volunteers and people making outstanding contributions to life in general through their work rather than people from the business world. Some of former prime minister Liz Truss' recipients were a bit iffy to say the least.

Seems that we have another bus going from Wymondham to Norwich and return. The 6A service will run once an hour from January 2nd and will go a slightly different route to the other buses, going past the King's Head and Queen's Head. I still can't quite make out exactly where it will be going but once again I will be on the case to find out.
It can all be a tad confusing as we now can catch the 6, the 6A, the 11, the 13, the 14, the 15, the 16 and the Ourbus service three days a week to a retail park and there's probably a few more I've missed. It could soon get really confusing

I want to shout out every time I pass a sign on the main road which is close to new housing development. The sign uses that evil word "only".
I call it evil because it's a word that never represents what it's meant to. Let me explain. You will find it used when something is excessive but the person using it wants you to think they are virtually giving something away.
So up the road we have a sign that says "New homes for only £258 a week."
Note the use of the word only. '"oh my goodness look a new home is only £258 a week isn't that incredible?" somebody might say as they pass by.
But let's do the maths. There are 52 weeks in the year and one day (or two in a leap year). Let's ignore the additional day or two. So the total payment for the year would be £13,416. That works out at a massive £1118 a month. Yes well over £1000 a month. I don't think you would say "only £1118 a month," but of course nobody is going to say "for a massive £1118 a month."
I believe the phrase I'm searching for here is "conning the great British public with the misuse of a word."
