World of Sport
Much of my life has revolved around sport and in this section of my web site I write about some of my passions from coaching to watching, from reporting to playing and my current involvement with a number of local sports clubs.
At school I enjoyed playing cricket, football, hockey and tennis - can't say I ever really took to rugby. As a journalist I reported on a number of non league football teams and subsequently league teams including Chesterfield, Nottingham Forest and Norwich City. Some of my working life was spent as a sports editor for a group of weekly newspapers.
In Hethersett I founded Hethersett and the Meltons' Sports Association of which I was chairman and secretary for many years. I was also the first ever chairman of Hethersett Athletic Football Club, a post I held for many years before retiring a few years ago when I was made an honorary life member of the club. I am also one of only two people to be awarded the Lee Thompson Memorial Trophy for outstanding contribution to the club - the other being its founder Mel Perkins M.B.E.
I have held a number of positions in Hethersett and Tas Valley Cricket Club, having also played for them for a number of seasons. I was publicity officer and club development officer for a number of years and chairman for two years. On retiring from the chair I was made an honorary life vice president. I am also a director of Hethersett Olympic Legacy Sports Complex and former member of Hethersett Methodist Table Tennis Club and Hethersett Social Running Club. You can read about my involvement with these clubs by clicking on the various headings below:
