The display on Park Green is now, I believe, in its third year and is in memory of a five-year-old boy Finnbar Cork who died of a brain tumour in 2016.
After his death, his parents - Tristan and Claire - launched Finnbar's Force in his memory and to raise funds for research into the disease and also to support families with children living with brain tumours.
Over the past five years they have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds and the Christmas lights spectacular is the major product of their year. Planning starts in the summer and volunteers start putting up the lights in September. This year the parish council has allowed the charity to illuminate the large Oak tree off the main road through the village and it's quite a sight.
No photographs can do justice to the feeling as you walk through the little cut into Park Green. It really does feel magically special and this year even more houses than usual are taking part so the lights span an even greater area. It really has to be experienced first hand to be appreciated. Every year I attempt to take photographs but they never come out as I would want.
I will be running a full feature on the lights and Finnbar in my next Hethersett Herald which will be published tomorrow. I challenge anyone to read what Tristan and Claire have said about their son without shedding a tear.
I would also like to mention Tony and Margaret Dunton who have lit up their Hethersett home for over two decades and raised thousands of pounds for a variety of charities including the East Anglia Children's Hospices and East Anglia Air Ambulance.
The photographs with this blog show just a few of the lights along with pictures of three of the leading lights (sorry for the intended pun) - Tristan Cork, Chris Ketley and Alan Metcalf. There's also a photograph of Tony and Margaret Dunton's house.

Well done to anyone who got the answer to my teaser yesterday. The word with three consecutive double letters is bookkeeper. Many people think that it's two words but it is in fact one.

Are there any motor mechanics out there looking for a job? I have been contacted by friend Martin Dye who has a vacancy at his garage which is close to Hethersett. He would like to recruit somebody as soon as possible. Anyone interested in applying or in finding out more about the position should contact Martin on 07771517778.
