Not to us of course. It was us taking it round.
I particularly remember Christmas at Cromer. Throughout the year we spoke regularly to the coastguards and at the festive season a couple of us would take bottles of whisky (or whiskey) to them in their lookout on the clifftop..
Of course they would break one of the bottles open and a pleasant afternoon was spent staring out to sea and then staggering through the town home. The duty coastguard would refrain from drinking. It's a shame I have never liked Whisky (or whiskey). I particularly remember a coastguard by the name of Colin Hill. Isn't it strange how some names stay with you whilst others are forgotten? Colin was particularly helpful to us.
At Norwich the boot was always on the other foot as far as Christmas drinks were concerned. The brilliant Dick Condon, general manager at the Theatre Royal, would send all of us regular reviewers a bottle at Christmas.

You will know that I'm not a great fan of the One Show on the BBC. But in the interest of research I tuned in on Friday with the OTT Monitor beside me.
This basically stands for Over The Top Monitor and is my ears. This was a fairly quiet edition for the OTTMontor. It was pretty light in the old hyperbole stakes but by the time we switched over after 25 minutes we had three brilliants, six amazings, four WOWS, three excited and one fantastic. Not an awesome in sight.

Apologies for some of the grammar in yesterday's blog. I dictated it into my mobile phone and didn't read through it carefully enough before publishing. Today's blog is 100 per cent written. What's that you say, you can't tell the difference? You cheeky bloggettes.
I don't like the weather forecast for today. I'm stewarding at the open air carol service in the village this evening which starts at 5.30 for half an hour. The rain is expected to relent around that time. Let's hope for a dry event.
The carol singing is around the village lights in Park Green. You will recognise me as I will be wearing a yellow tabard and will be wielding a torch. Not quite sure what my duties will be but I'm sure it might involve giving out carol sheets. Do come along if you live locally.

It's often confusing having a surname like STEWARD. We used to tell the children that we had so many relatives. There was Safety Steward and Crowd Steward and Event Steward and many more.
At the recent carol service in St Peter Mancroft an announcement was made that the stewards would be coming round to give out candles:
"Oh no we won't" I said to the grandkiddles.
Of course the Bible talks about Peter the Good Steward and that must be a reference to myself, although I know you will disagree.

So we bought the Christmas tree. Left it late this year but there were a few left and we managed to bag one. It was dripping wet so won't be picking it up until next week.
It was dripping wet in Norwich as well until the rain stopped in time for us to go to watch the 24 carat bore that is Norwich. It was another dull, turgid show of sideways and backwards football. Preston were totally negative and if this goalless draw was entertainment then I'm a Chinaman. Do you remember that phase?
There's another game on Wednesday but if it's wet and/or cold I will be staying at home.
