I now have details of a kick start fundraising event to be held during half-term. It's a simple but fun one. The organisers are asking people to walk, run, hop, scoot (or I guess crawl) a mile and turn that mile into money. Donation buckets made by Caroline Lightwing are being placed in Tesco Express and Church Farm Shop during the week. There will also be a gold post box at the youth club for donations and an amount of £1 per entry or £3 per family is suggested. Certificates will be available at donation points or can be e-mailed on request.
A Facebook page has been set up with details. The mile can be done at any time and fancy dress is encouraged - which should be ok for me as most people think my ordinary day clothes are fancy dress.
The organisers are also asking people to share pictures. You can find the Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/457278605647277.
The Gofundme page for donations is at: https://uk.gofundme.com/f/help-fix-jubilee-youth-club-roof

I know quite a few of my readers come from outside the village but I like to show them just what a strong community we have.

Monday was just one of those days when I couldn't get warm. Do you know what I mean? You start the day feeling cold and nothing seems to warm you up. Frozen to the bone is probably the right phrase for this.
It was a happy/sad day as we attended a funeral service for Alan Utting. Alan had lived in the village for around four years and was a member of a little luncheon group that we set-up. The group met once a month in the Queen's Head for lunch (and hope to do so again someday).
Alan referred to the group as The Chatterers Club. We tend to refer to it as The Old F---s Club. Alan died just five days after his 96th birthday and so he had a good innings and this was a celebration of his life.
Talking of which leads me onto the excellent win by England's cricket team in India. They won against all the odds. It was nice to be able to get up in sub zero temperature England to switch on the TV and see people sweltering in summer heat.
Of course sports people live in permanent summer. Take professional tennis players for example. They move around the world from tournament to tournament all played in the summer months of the country they are in. They probably never experience snow and ice,

Yesterday I did a massive 11 mile Steward Stroll to Wymondham and along the River Tiffey yet again. I was in search of the elusive Kingfisher and the elusive owl neither of which I have seen.
On this occasion Cousin Belinda spotted two owls, as did another gentleman. I couldn't see them even when I was told where to look through my long lens camera. Belinda even took a photo with my camera and still I didn't see them. I seriously believe that they are stuffed!!!!

Yesterday I got a telephone call from Norfolk Library and Information Service. It was simply to see whether we are ok. It was a nice touch. Had a long chat about Dickens, Daphne Du Maurier, Thomas Hardy and much more.
During lockdown libraries are shut. I miss the social aspect of libraries - going in to have a sit and read newspapers and magazines (and even books). I miss my involvement in the library world as vice-chairman of the Friends of Hethersett Library where we had regular monthly talks and presentations. Hopefully all this will return one day. In the meantime I'm regularly downloading e-books from the library service.

In the meantime I hope you enjoy some of my photos taken on the Steward Stroll yesterday.
