Audrey Cooper said: "While reading about the Tulip tree outside the Library and its possible age, it triggered a memory of the very large Mulberry Tree that I saw in the grounds of Old Hall School when attending one of their fetes. Given the age of the original building, does anyone know how old the Mulberry is and if its still there.
Maybe one of the former pupils can answer that one. I remember a few years ago a large tree had to be taken down at Old Hall School due to disease. It could have been the Mulberry. I would love to hear from anyone who has photographs etc.
There's good news on the sporting front despite the fact that the rain prevented me from enjoying my weekly game of tennis today. Cycle speedway is about to start up again on the Memorial Playing Field and recreational cricket has been given the go-ahead, although it's now too late for any league competitions. It means that Hethersett and Tas Valley will at least be playing some competitive cricket during July and August. Restrictions will be in place which will include players bringing their own picnic teas, but at least it's a step in the right direction. There are plenty of restrictions as well for cycle speedway but at least things are moving in the right direction.
Woke up this morning wondering how many blogs I have written since lockdown (it's the kind of thing I think about when I can't sleep)! So decided to count them. I started writing on 8th March when there was a fear of some kind of lockdown and have continued up to the present. Some days I have written up to three different blogs but now have settled down to produce a daily one which I hope you still enjoy reading.
In total since 8th March I have written 192 separate blogs over the 123 days. Most have featured Hethersett and the surrounding areas with plenty of reminiscences and historical facts about the village. Occasionally I have ventured into other areas of thought and talked about other places.
Entries have been as follows:
March 37
April 51
May 54
June 42
July 8
In that time I have posted 2,230 images!
I would love to do something with the blogs, but haven't a clue what. I am open to suggestions though.

Today was an unusual one. I went on a Steward Stroll around the village and didn't take a single photograph. On dank, drizzly days like this I just want to get out for the exercise without lingering anywhere.

I am currently working on a feature about Woodside School for my Hethersett Herald and also for the Eastern Daily Press newspaper. The school was opened in January, 1974. But who was it opened by? I will give the answer tomorrow.
