We have spent a few days in the Cotswolds which is one of our favourite parts of the country.
We have been staying just outside Witney which is in Oxfordshire. But we dipped into Gloucestershire for our day on the road. We started off in Burford - a place we haven't visited before.
It was an impressive place and we couldn't believe the temperature. It hit 19 degrees and that's near the end of October. I was walking around in just a shirt (actually that's not exactly true as I had shoes and trousers etc on as well).
The problem with Burford is the same as with Chipping Camden and many other places of historic importance in our country. They are spoiled by cars parked everywhere and I really do mean everywhere. It ruins the feel of these places but I guess there's very little you can do about it. And of course we were there in a car which we parked wherever we could find a space.
Eldest son recognised a "famous actor." I use the word famous a little loosely here. Has anyone heard of Nick Mohammad? I did kind of recognise him but his CV is pretty impressive. He's been in Reggie Perin, Miranda, Absolutely Fabulous The Movie, Bridget Jones' Baby, and was the voice of Piglet in the film Christopher Robin.
From Burford we went to Boughton on the Water and then the Slaughters -Upper and Lower. Lower Slaughter is much more interesting and has a mill. It used to have a very nice tearoom at the Mill but that's no longer there unfortunately as trying to find somewhere to eat without a booking was, well let's say, a tad problematic.
We have been to Boughton so many times that we are beginning to feel that enough is enough. The difference between that and Burford was interesting. Burford is a genuine town with a town feel whilst Boughton is a tourist trap with everything geared to attract visitors.
By the time we got to Stow on the Wold we all needed sustenance and so just sat on a wall eating a sandwich from the local Co-Op.
Hope you enjoy some of the photographs taken on our day trip.
