We often look at headlines to prove this. I seem to remember something along the lines of "Parrot with Dementia Returns Home" or something like that.
So on the national news this morning (and the local last night) came the story of Mr Angry the pheasant who regularly attacks the local postman whose name is Kevin.
The problem is that postie Kev delivers in the village of Brooke wearing a very garish red outfit that would be more appropriate to Father Christmas than a deliverer of mail. I'm just glad that Mr Angry isn't a bull - he (the bull that is) would have had a field day (pardon the pun) with that red outfit.
So many people still believe that in Norfolk we still walk around with straw in our mouths uttering the words "oh aaah". This kind of programme does nothing for our credibility, although I suppose it is mildly amusing (and I did say mildly).

England beat San Marino 5-0 in a football World Cup qualifier on Wednesday. So why am I not celebrating victory?
That's because anything less than 10-0 should be viewed as poor. Let's look at the facts. England have (allegedly) world class footballers - many of whom earn in excess of £100,000 per week (yes that's per week and not per year). They are all professional athletes, most of whom play in the best league in the world (The Premiership).
Now let's look at San Marino. All the players have other jobs, they are just part time footballers. San Marino are ranked 211 in the world football rankings (that's 211th out of 211 nations). They have never won a competitive international football match. They have only been playing international matches since 1990. Their only victory was a 1-0 win in a friendly against Liechtenstein way back in 2004. Their top all time international scorer has just eight goals. Their national stadium has a crowd capacity of 7,000. They have conceded 10 goals or more in a match on five occasions. As far as I can make out their record in competitive games is Played 153, won 0, drawn 5, lost 148.
The country has an estimated population of 34,338. According to statistics there are 16,876 males. If you divide the male population into four groups (under-17, 18-40, 40-60 and 60 and above) a very rough calculation will give you 4,200 men aged between 18 and 40 i.e those in the age range from which international footballers could be picked. Some of those of course may not be San Marino nationals and so the figure could be lower.
Put all that together and it should show that San Marino would be very happy to play football at Wembley and only lose 5-0 and England should be hugely disappointed with their goal tally considering they had 85% of possession and San Marino didn't have a single shot on target.
Mind you San Marino are competitive against the likes of Liechtenstein (population 38,020) and Gibraltar (population 34,000) although I have no idea how Gibraltar qualifies as being a country in its own right the same way as how Australia qualifies to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest.

And talking of Eurovision. It's just around the corner again. In the interests of research I have started listening to all 65 of the UK's entries since it all started. I will report back on the findings.
