Such was the post from Janet a few days ago that got to the very heart of what I am trying to do. By the nature of a personal blog it has to be about the blogger. Sometimes I feel that I'm going on about me just a little too much but it's difficult to write about things that aren't in my life if you know what I mean.
Janet's post was as follows:
"People on FB can be guilty of showing the best of life only. Giving a false picture so others feel they are rubbish or failing. Yours is always honest and tells the good and the bad."
Since I started this blog I have received so many wonderful comments and I'm so grateful for all of them. At times they have kept me going.
I love writing the blogs and when I re-visit them they do build up something of a picture of who I am and what I am.
I often take a skewed look at life. You may not agree with what I write at times but I hope I'm always honest and provoke some kind of reaction even if it's negative.
But enough of this naval gazing.
We need to talk about Kevin. Whoops sorry got carried away as that's the name of a novel. We need to talk about procrastination. I could of course talk about it today or I could put it off until tomorrow.
I had so much to do yesterday that I ignored it all and got a bus. Actually that's not quite true. I spent quite some time adding another chapter and making corrections to our book on the Le Paradis Massacre. The new chapter has been written about the part played by the Royal Scots and is written by John Head. When we read through the proofs of what we thought to be the final draft, we felt that the brave soldiers of the Royal Scots needed more recognition. This has now been done and there's a few more bits and pieces to sort before we have a definitely finished product.
Hopped on a bus to Norwich and thought I was in a parallel universe. I have spoken before about the rudeness of bus drivers. This one was remarkably pleasant and friendly. In Norwich I spent sometime in Waterstones as I have a book token to spend. There the assistant was equally pleasant, although I didn't buy anything.
It always takes me months to spend book tokens. Without one I find loads of books I would like to buy but when I have a token which could buy any of those books I don't bother. Would somebody like to do a psychological profile on me for that one?
So instead I went to the library and took a book out. I'm putting together a bucket list of things to do. I really don't want to do this but I feel that when you get to my age it is expected. But I'm not going to go mad and chuck myself out of a plane or walk 1500 miles in a year (oh I forgot, I've already done that one). No this will be the old codgers boring bucket list - full of boring stuff that nobody else would want to do.
So here we go. We will start with a stultifyingly dull aim and that is to visit every library in Norfolk. How many are there I hear you ask as your interest grows.
Well a quick check on the internet tells me there are in fact 47 which is a lot to visit. I won't bore you by listing them all but a quick check shows I reckon I've already visited nine so I have some way to go. Number 10 coming up over the next few days.
More boring buckets will be announced shortly. Has this man lost his mind, I hear you ask?
Finally, today I found details of another bus service to and from the village. This one will run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and will go through the village and onto a retail park about five miles away. There will only be one bus there and one bus back on each day of operation but it's a good way of going to Sainsbury's to do some shopping or as much as you can carry on public transport. There's also homeware stores and others where you can easily spend a couple of hours.
Oh and there's a competitively priced petrol station as well. I wrote that before I remembered we would be on a bus and not have our car with us unless the bus company would kindly tow us there which somehow I doubt.
Today I'm spending most of the morning walking round Hethersett, taking photos of various areas and buildings. It's all to do with a parish profile being put together to help advertise for a new rector at the parish church. They need some photos to go with the editorial and I'm more than happy to oblige. Will also give me some photos for my publications.
