Writing is both a social and solitary hobby that can become stressful if not done for the right reasons and in the right way.
Sometimes I even struggle with these blogs and it isn't particularly enjoyable when I have to force them out (rather like being constipated). At other times they flow and I bore everyone with just how verbose they are.
I wouldn't call the former a case of writers' blog, just a shortage of ideas on a particular day.
So the social side of writing isn't writing at all. It's getting the ideas, meeting people, doing interviews, researching with others, attending events and much more. The solitary side is doing the writing when the best place is in a cool room on your own and with or without the television or radio on.
The strange thing about my writing is I seem to do it best if I have the television on in the background. I actually have that as I write this blog. I am looking at the screen and writing but I find I can also listen to the news at the same time and hopefully make sense of both things. I guess this is a skill I have picked up over the years.
Sometimes if I am interviewing a group of people I will pose a question to one person but listening in as others interject or make comments. I suppose this is a skill I have picked up over many years.

I love viewing old footage and film and now on the bbc.co.uk/rewind site has something like 30,000 archive films on it. Apparently you can search for films of areas close to you. I will be having a look over the next few days.
