But tonight there was an anticipated added bonus in Karen Close. Once again, as last week, the clapping stopped as we all turned to listen to Derek Cubitt play "We'll Meet Again" on the saxophone. Derek has become one of the local heroes and gained national prominence thanks to the previous week's rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone."
I managed to snap the photograph at the top of this page.
By way of contrast I have scanned in the photographs found yesterday in a dusty old drawer in the garage. Over the next few days I will be putting some of these on this blog and also the All Things Hethersett Facebook page.
So we start our look at the past with multiple views of what is now the PACT Charity shop on the corner of Great Melton Road and Henstead Road.
When we first moved to the village it was Nixon's newsagents the first photograph shows this. Then it became the national headquarters of Grinders Coffee before becoming the MacMillan Charity Shop and now PACT. I may well have missed out a use of the shop and would be delighted to hear from anyone who can fill in any omissions.
More glimpses of the immediate past tomorrow and over the next few days.
