I have no idea how I came by this photo but I do remember my mother telling me that I was named after Peter Moore. I don't think it was anything more (pardon the pun on words there) than the fact that this Peter was a charming young man and by giving me the same Christian name my mother hoped I might become equally charming and a little of Mr Moore would rub off on me and that's what most of today's blog is about.
So yesterday I left a little teaser about ways to lead a new life. No I'm sorry there's not going to be any great revelations but do give the following some thought and let me know what you think.
To lead a new life you need to be different people. Notice I said people and not a different person. I think we all have periods in our lives when we would like to be a different person. Is it natural to be dissatisfied with who we are and what we do? I certainly suspect so.
When I say we should strive to be different people I don't mean we should develop multi personalities.
What I mean is we should take the best parts of other people and integrate them into ourselves. Know somebody who is a snappy dresser, dress like them. Know somebody who is kind, be kind like them. Know somebody who is fun and outgoing, be fun and outward going like them.
I bet everyone of us at some time have said "I wish I was more like x or y." Well actually you can be if you try. Mind you it could all lead you into being rather mixed up and get frustrated while people say "just be yourself. Never try to be what you aren 't," but that shouldn't put you off striving to take the best bits from other people's characters.
Now I bet the sleep you lost last night in anticipation of this tremendous revelation was really worth it.
Have been watching the television drama about Jimmy Savile. I have found it uncomfortable watching to say the least. Savile was a product of the seventies when appalling behaviour was glossed over or ignored or even supported.
I wouldn't say that I ever saw Savile as a sexual predator but I did have a problem with him and that was simply his lack of talent.
I used to listen to him on the radio and think "how did this man get where he is?" All he did was spout the most terrible drivel and the same went for his other programmes Savile's Travels and Jim'll Fix It.
Now watching the programme it's easier to see how he was given this exposure (again no pun intended) and how he managed to operate his evil ways beneath the radar.
Steve Coogan is doing a good job of portraying Savile. It can't be easy to play somebody you know is evil and not turn him into a pantomime villain, particularly with his shock of long white hair. The question in my mind is whether there was some good in Savile that made him undertake the charity work for which he received a knighthood or whether it was a cover for his behaviour. Any thoughts?
Just a few photos today of the picturesque village very close to Milton Keynes which I mentioned yesterday. The place is called Simpson and a blue plaque has recently appeared on a cottage where Alan Turing lived. You will see this in the photos. Simpson is close to the wartime code breaking site at Bletchley Park. There's also a few photos of the local canal.
Tomorrow I will tell you about our day in Beccles.
