Today it's back to music.
Many villages, towns and cities now have book exchanges where people can drop off books, take books and swap books. Some places have utilised old phone boxes for this. In Hethersett we have a custom made wooden box with shelving in Back Lane. I always have a look when in the area and often drop books off as well. It's a great way to get a read.
A couple of days ago I picked up biographies of Cilla Black and Elton John. My main interest in the Cilla tome is her early days on the Merseybeat scene when she worked as a cloakroom attendant at the legendary Cavern Club in Liverpool.
With Elton John, I'm more interested in him as a person than as a musician. I can take it or leave it when it comes to his music but he is an intriguing character prone to bouts of fiery temper. My favourite Elton John album is his first intriguingly titled "Elton John." It has some great songs on it including "Your Song".
John's partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin is one of the best in the history of song writing but I find some of his material rather self centred and unsatisfying. I will read the biography with interest.
Did you know that Elton John collects sunglasses and has around 250,000. Yes that's right 250,000. If he wore a different pair every day it would take him a monumental 684 years to get through them. Where the heck does he keep them all?
