We now have a decent photographic record of the carnival day with photographs taken by John in Henstead Road and the Memorial Playing Field (some of which are used here), by Malcolm Morrison in Great Melton Road and by myself in Recreation Road. I will put them all together in one file for the Hethersett History Project which can be seen at www.hethersettherald.weebly.com.
And so to John's amusing story. It was 31st October, 1992, and the day Hethersett resident Rosie Hubbard nearly abseiled through the West End window of the church. John takes up the story:
"With the assistance of the then RAF Raynham, an Abseiling Church Tower event was organised. There are three shots of the Rector (Rev. Brian Llewellyn) correctly and rather professionally descending the Tower. Then it came to Rosie's turn (orange head protection). You will note how far she has glided away from the tower. The main shot is blurred owing to the speed she found herself hurtling towards the West End widow. Thanks to the professionalism of the RAF team - no property damage or personal injury came about. Other shots show how the clock had to be wound prior to the satellite installation, the bells before they were refurbished by Whitefriars Foundry and Steeple Tower which was still being developed.
Finally today it looks as if there have been some very big moles at work in Hethersett on the fields at the back of Longview as is shown by this photograph of a field sent to me by Ray Hannent
