What David has to say very much resonates with me. In fact his story and the things I like about the village are very similar. But it set me thinking about how I came to Hethersett and really it was by chance (some might call it fate).
I was born and brought up in Hellesdon and, after a year at journalism college in Harlow, worked as a reporter in Lowestoft, Norwich, Cromer and Beccles before moving to the Midlands for a year. Things didn't really work out there and we decided to return to Norfolk after I was offered a job as a sub editor on the Norwich Mercury Series of weekly newspapers.
But where to live - that was the question? Our first thoughts were to Beccles where I felt very much at home. But, on reflection, we felt somewhere a bit closer to Norwich would be a better idea. I really didn't want to live back in Hellesdon or on the north side of the city due to difficulties getting into Norwich from that direction.
I can't remember why we started to look at Hethersett apart from the fact that it was close to Norwich and there were plenty of properties available. At that point I wasn't thinking anything about community spirit or facilities.
Whilst living in Cromer and Beccles I had felt very much part of the local community and I guess I wanted to replicate that in Hethersett.
So we bought a chalet in Buckingham Drive and haven't looked back since. To me Hethersett is home. The only place I would ever leave it for would be Norwich, but at the moment that isn't really on the agenda.
In a coming blog I will tell you exactly what I like about the village.
My gallery of photographs today comes from a visit to Southwold - only our second visit to the seaside since lockdown - Cromer being our only other.
I will post these photos in two separate blogs as there are quite a lot of them.
