And I only just made it in time for October 1st. I don't like leaving things this late but I had so much to write and include.
I sent out a direct link through various Facebook sites yesterday but if you are interested in reading it you can find it on www.hethersettherald.weebly.com. Just click on the October edition towards the top of the page.
Many of you will be regular readers of the magazine but hopefully I will pick up some new readers through this Facebook site. If you do enjoy the magazine please leave a comment on this site.
The idea behind the magazine is quite simple - to provide a monthly digest of features, news and information of as many aspects of village life as possible. I also hope you find it entertaining.
This edition is a particularly newsy one with articles on the educational revolution, the re-opening of the King's Head and the controversy over who should pay for grass cutting in the village churchyard. There's plenty of other stories as well spread over more than 130 pages of words and pictures.
I am always on the lookout for good features and news from the village and now also write on a freelance basis for the Eastern Daily Press, Norwich Evening News and Wymondham Mercury newspapers. So if you have news and/or ideas for features please e-mail me at: [email protected].
I like nothing more than wandering round the village with my camera picking up information to use in the Herald. I may have just finished the October edition but work will start in earnest tomorrow on the November publication.
I already have a number of ideas for features. This morning I had a long chat with a former Hethersett resident who is suffering the debilitating aftermath of Covid. Then had a wander round the village and took a photo of the two new swings in the playground on the Memorial Playing Field and then popped into the garden of the King's Head to meet the new lease holder Justin Harvey and the new landlord Ben Woof. I had to apologies to Ben for misspelling his names as Woos in various places.
I will be meeting up with Ben in the near future to find out more about the plans for the pub when it re-opens in early November. I then wandered along to the bus shelter on the B1172 going towards Wymondham and virtually opposite the entrance to New Road. It wasn't a pleasant sight as you can see from my photos. Somebody had daubed the outside with the words "End Lockdown Now" and the inside was strewn with rubbish. I sometimes despair about where our country is going, but not as much as I despair about the future of the USA.
I could only watch in amazement as Trump and Biden hacked into each other last night at a presidential debate. Debate is definitely the wrong word. Slug fest would have been a better word. Biden called Trump a clown and Trump insulted both Biden and his family. It was just like watching two immature kids fighting it out in the school playground. I really am glad that I'm not American as I wouldn't be able to vote for either of these horrible men who seem to have no morals, no ideals and very little intelligence.
