One of my followers, Helen, read my piece about the pedestrian crossing in Recreation Road, Hethersett, and it rang a bell.
Helen remembered seeing an article in the local press about a call for a zebra crossing in Recreation Road, Norwich, and wondered if the county council have got the wrong Recreation Road in installing the pedestrian crossing option to the lights.
Here's the Norwich story:
"A Norwich mother has called for a zebra crossing to be installed across a busy city road before an increasing volume of vehicles results in a child or pedestrian being seriously injured.
Kate Read, 35, of College Road, has launched a petition and collected 260 signatures backing her call for the new crossing point at the junction of the Avenues and Recreation Road beside Heigham Park.
She said traffic levels along the Avenues and Avenue Road had increased enormously during the last 15 years due to the expansion of the University of East Anglia and the increased number of vehicles using the Bluebell Road entrance.
'I think somebody could be seriously hurt. It is the volume that is the main problem, though some drivers do go faster than the 20mph speed limit,' Mrs Read said.
Her other concern was that the Avenues was an important component of the Push the Pedalways scheme, to encourage cycling in the city, adding that while she supported the scheme's overall objective, she feared an increase in cycling along the road could also jeopardise the safety of pedestrians and children."
I will do some investigation.
Meanwhile there are a number of photographs of the four way lights included with this blog, along with a couple of media cuttings about the village that have appeared in the local press recently.

Yesterday's Steward Stroll was just under six miles. The fields around the back of the church were very muddy and very slippery and I was glad to get back in one piece.

Sadly Hethersett Village Screen has decided to cancel its proposed spring dates. It hopes to return with a series of films in the Autumn although I believe things are on a knife edge. It really will all come down to "use it or lose it." It would be such a shame to lose these monthly films which provide not only good entertainment but also a social occasion.
Yesterday's good news was that vaccination against Covid is due to start very shortly at Cringleford. The Humbleyard Practice is once again asking that people refrain from contacting them about the vaccine. They will contact people and first to get the vaccine will be the over 80s.
I'm very much looking forward to getting my shot in the arm (or to be more precise my two shots in the arm).
