Does anyone still have a Hethersett Green Village bag for life? I still have mine.
Let's wind the clock back to the Hethersett Green Village Day which took place in June 2008. It scarcely seems possible that it was 12 years ago.
The event was held in the village hall when the Hethersett Environmental Action Team (HEAT) posed the question to visitors - Just how green are you? HEAT set-up the Green Village Working Party to organise the day and also to distribute eco-friendly bags to every household in the village.
The group, under the auspices of Hethersett Parish Council, used the day to establish what steps had been taken by local groups and individuals to go green and to find out how people had reduced their carbon footprints.
It was a big Autumn for green Hethersett. Pride of Norfolk judges praised the village for its environmental work, litter picks were carried out (and still continue to this day) and 16th October was designated "No Plastic Bag Day" when local businesses stopped issuing plastic bags for the day. At the time this was pretty groundbreaking and paved the way for today's environment where plastic bags have been cut to a minimum.
You might recognise some of the leading environmentalists in our photographs which come from the Hethersett Green Village Day.
