After all there was coffee on tap and in the winter it was warm and in the summer you could have cooling fans on. But that wasn't what I liked about it.
I liked what I referred to as the writer's dump and it had nothing to do with going to the loo although after a few coffees that often changed. The dump involved coming into the office with a notebook full of information and then spending the day turning all the shorthand notes into understandable information and stories for the various newspapers.
Well yesterday was half a day of gathering information and half a day of dumping!
In the morning I met two very interesting people. Firstly I went to Little Melton Playing Field to have a chat with Andrea Anthony about her new venture, starting a group for twinless twins. Andrea is an identical twin but her sister Melanie died from cancer five years ago. As Andrea told me "there isn't a day when I don't miss her and think about her."
Andrea described how twins often have an inseparable bond due to the fact that they grow up with shared experiences. These are obviously youngsters of exactly the same age who grow at the same rate and share the same things. Now Andrea is starting a twinless twins support group.
Andrea has also been a childminder in Hethersett for the past 24 years and was marking her retirement with a picnic at Little Melton. She is also the daughter of David Bull whom I wrote a story about a couple of months .
I then drove a couple of miles to meet up with Lynne Symonds who is an African chief would you believe? Lynne is the founder of the Wulugu Project which builds schools and does any number of other things in Northern Ghana. Her work was recognised when she was made chief of one of the tribes.
So after a long chat with her I came away with a notebook worth of material which I spent the afternoon typing up. I will be sending stories to the local media and both will also appear in my next edition of Hethersett Herald which I hope will be online by next Wednesday.
In the meantime, I include with this blog a photo featuring the twins, Andrea's family and friends at the picnic and Lynne Symonds in one of her chief's outfits.
