As I mentioned the photographs were found in a dusty old drawer in my garage and they seem to have brought forward many memories and reminiscences.
A number of people identified Geoff Entwhistle as one of the butchers and he still lives in the village in his nineties. Others remembered the butchers being Dann's and then Bensley's.
One message said: "I remember Geoff in the butchers when I was a child... he used to pick me up so I could push the buttons on his till for him, lovely man, such happy childhood memories."
So on to today's memory lane. We take a look at Hethersett Post Office when it was housed in a rather large shop opposite the junction of Henstead and Great Melton Roads. Who remembers it when it was run by the Keeleys - Randall and Shirley - (both of whom are still very much with us)?
As well as being a post office the shop was something of an all purpose store where you could buy stationery and many other do-it-yourself goods. As we show the shop then became a MacMillan charity shop before that charity moved across the road to what is now the PACT charity shop. The shop was eventually pulled down along with that horrible eyesore next to it. I can remember that being there but can't for the life of me recall what it was used for. I'm sure somebody will be able to enlighten me.
Our final photo shows the location of the current post office in Oak Square. Oak square businesses have changed, however. Does anyone remember Quillians which is now Hodge Podge?
One thing that struck me was the quiet nature of the village with no cars in Oak Square, suggesting these shots were taken on a Sunday or even on a Bank Holiday.
Would love to hear from anyone with memories of any of the above. More Down Memory Lane tomorrow.
