I have never liked them. Many is the time I've looked at my watch wishing the time for the disco would go more quickly.
Many is the time I've enjoyed an event but been bored rigid by the evening disco.
It's quite difficult to say why I've hated them so much over the years. I love music but I guess I don't like disco music at all. My hero Harry Chapin used to refer to it as disco bullshit.
I accept that you can't dance to Beethoven or symphonic or progressive rock but by the same criteria you can't really listen to disco music.
The only discos I have ever enjoyed were at Brooke Village Hall on a Saturday night when I was at school and that was because we spent as much time at the nearby pub as we did at the disco.
Other than that the idea of flinging oneself around to some awful piece of dross, well let's just say it isn't my cup of tea or pint of beer for that matter.
We used to have things called dinner dances which were exactly that - a dinner followed by a dance. These dances weren't the fling your body about in a ridiculous fashion kind but more sedate waltzes etc. On numerous occasions I illustrated that I have two left feet and have long come to the conclusion that it's dancing that I dislike.
We used to go to country dances or ceilidhs to give them their posh title. I hated these as well. Our cricket club recently had a silent disco where everyone danced to music whilst wearing headphones. This struck me as being even more ridiculous.
We did have some stonking social evenings when I was at grammar school and I will tell you about these tomorrow and hope I'm not repeating myself too much.
Having said all the above I do have to say I enjoyed the wedding celebrations yesterday and I will also tell you about these in a coming blog.
