I have been listing my ancestors on an Excel spreadsheet and made some excellent progress yesterday. Excellent that is until my laptop battery ran out before I could plug it in. I got the usual "your laptop is about to shutdown" message which comes a split second before it conks out which gives you absolutely no time to plug in.
But I wasn't worried because I had just saved my work. But when I plugged in and tried to open the file I got the same annoying message "Excel cannot open the file. The file format or file extension is not valid."
I have tried everything from troubleshooting to You Tube videos and internet advice and nothing will bring the file back. Would appreciate any help on this one.

Was very pleased that the story on the memorial football match I mentioned yesterday is already in the online edition of the Eastern Daily Press and Norwich Evening News newspapers. Hopefully it will appear in the written editions in the next day or so.

Yesterday I mentioned a number of people I either know of or know personally who have died. Missed off dear Anne Carter from Little Melton who I interviewed a few years ago about her book about life growing up in Burma. It was entitled "Bewitched by Burma."
Anne also wrote a book on the history of Little Melton. I have been unable to unearth my interview with her but will keep looking.

I am currently reading Martin Gilbert's history of the Second World War. Quite a monumental tome. A few days ago grandson Elliot told me their topic at school for the coming year is the Second World War. He started asking me questions about Adolf Hitler and I suddenly realised how difficult it is to speak in a way that an eight year old can understand the complexities of the war. I will have to work hard at that one.

Later today we will have the first meeting of the Hethersett Dementia Support group since Lockdown. It's going to take the form of coffee, chat and a music quiz featuring names. I have set-up a Spotify playlist for the answers and so will give you the questions in tomorrow's blog to see how many you can get right.
