My posts will primarily be involved with day to day happenings in my village and things of general interest that I hope you might enjoy reading.
Today the sun came out at last although there was still a keen wind. Over the past few weeks I have been struggling with the cold and wet weather. It has seemed to go on and on this year. Perhaps the length seems to be because we haven't suffered any really bad weather here in the East - just cold, wind and rain that doesn't seem to want to go away.
Last year we had a holiday in Northumberland where the temperatures in February were around the 20 degree mark and I was walking around in a T-Shirt. This year we went to the Cotswolds in January and it was cold and damp and that was before the area went underwater for a number of weeks.
And that cold and damp weather seems to have gone on for weeks. But Spring is just around the corner we know and, in Hethersett. the weather has been relatively mild. There was a reminder in the village today, however, of the storms and wind of a few weeks ago which toppled a very large Walnut tree. Today a very cut down version of that tree has been replanted (see photograph above which is alongside the original damage from January). The age of the last one was certainly more than 60 years. Let's hope the newly planted "son of" will last just as long if not longer.
The afternoon brought the monthly village screen which this month saw a Dame and a Knight starring in "The Good Liar" which proved to be more entertaining and had a better plot than I had expected. Sir Ian McKellen and Dame Helen Mirren were excellent in the lead roles in this story of a conman (McKellen) and the woman he was trying to con out of money (Mirren). Helen Mirren's acting for much of the film was so understated that you just knew there was much more to her character than met the eye and so it turned out. I won't spoil things by relating all the twists and turns but I will be watching it again sometime to pick up all the clues.
