So we are following this idea when my other threequarters celebrates a significant birthday in early October. I never thought I would be married to a 100 year old (only joking).
Anne has decided to ask people to donate to two of the charities she supports - Alzheimer's Society and MacMillan Cancer Support. So far we have set-up a Just Giving page for donations to Alzheimer's Society which can be seen at:https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/anne-steward or just go to Just Giving and search Anne Steward
If you enjoy my blogs and are able to, please consider donating a small amount to one of these worthy cause.

Sometimes I get excited about something that is purely irrational. Today sees the start of the Ryder Cup.
For those who know nothing about sport, this is a golf cup competed for every two years between teams from the USA and Europe. It's probably the only time most of us support players from France, Spain, Germany etc.
I cannot explain why such a competition is so exciting - but it is. It's probably something to do with the excitement generated by the players themselves - not to mention the fans. The teams take it in turn to host the event and this year's is in America where crowds are very partisan to say the least.
It makes for good edge of the seat sport and good theatre even if you don't like golf. I put it in the same category as the University boat race which I also find exciting but can't explain why as it is a simple race on the River Thames between the same two teams each year - Oxford and Cambridge. It should be dull but it certainly isn't and I believe that is because of the human aspect of the contest which takes on almost a gladiatorial aspect. The rowers spend an entire year building up to an event that takes a matter of minutes.

Had another stupid dream recently. I went to play tennis but all the courts were in use. Eventually it was decided that everyone should play on one court. This of course left all the other courts empty. When we started to play we were using hard cricket rather than tennis balls and there were about 30 on each side of the net - ridiculous.

And now for the news in your area. That's what we are told every morning on BBC Breakfast. So over we go for the local news which this morning featured stories from Milton Keynes, Essex, Peterborough and Northampton. All of these are over 100 miles away and I certainly wouldn't consider them to be local. The only reference to Norfolk was the fact that a former Norwich councillor is standing for election for leader of the Green Party. So this is not local news and hearing about a warehouse fire in Northampton holds no interest for those of us living in Norwich!
