We woke up to a cold but sunny day and decided to pop up to North Norfolk for the final time this year.
First aim was a late breakfast in Holt. As we drove through Guist and onto Thursford and then Holt, the frost on the fields with the brilliant sun made for a chocolate box image. I should have stopped in a lay by and captured them. But I waited thinking that I would be able to get some nice photographs in the forest.
We had a pleasant breakfast in Holt but, when we came out, a mist had come down, obscuring views. So we lingered a short while in the forest at Kelling Heath and I did get a few misty pics and then we drove on to Cromer to see the Christmas lights. It's not Christmas without a trip to Cromer any more than it's not Christmas without seeing Perry Como crooning away on television whilst wearing a Christmas jumper or watching It's a Wonderful Life on television just to see if any more angels have got their wings.
It was so cold though that we didn't wait for the lights at Cromer but drove home.
We went into a couple of gift shops and a couple of charity shops in Holt. The prices there are outrageous and we couldn't help thinking that a number of businesses will go to the wall in 2023. Two clothes shops in Cromer High Street are about to close and others are already empty. I don't think people will be buying some of the overpriced goods they have on offer.
I was struck by a card and a picture in Holt. They both contained the words "From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads" in red lettering. That was it. I was attracted because I recognised the lyric as coming from David Bowie's song Life On Mars. The greetings card was £7.50 and the picture/poster on cardboard was £25. I think my seven year old granddaughter could create the cardboard poster for about 20p if that.
On the way to Holt we saw a garden centre named "Back To The Garden" which is another musical reference. This time a line from Joni Mitchell's classic song about the Woodstock Festival where the relevant lyric is:
We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves
Back to the garden
Hope you enjoy some of the photos
