It was almost as if the newer housing has taken priority with some of the older buildings looking rather dilapidated.
Ashwellthorpe Woods are interesting and well looked after. The Lower Wood has been woodland since the end of the last ice age. It is recorded in the Domesday Book and the woodland provided local people with a supply of timber for hundreds of years until the early 1970s. Today it is renowned for wild flowers and wildlife.
All Saints Church dates from the 13th century.
I hope you enjoy the gallery of photographs of Ashwellthorpe and the woods.

It has been wonderful over the last couple of days to hear from so many new readers. I put details of my blog on the Norfolk Family History Society Facebook page and had well over 100 people sign up - do they know what they are letting themselves in for? So welcome to them all.
Regular readers know that I ramble at length on a myriad of subjects - many of which I know little or nothing about.
It was good, however, to break out yesterday and have a drink and scone (is it pronounced scone or scon?) at a Wymondham cafe. Thing is it was warm enough to sit outside so we didn't really benefit from the new indoor allowance!
Before going out I watched some of Breakfast Television and they had the Scottish Youth Choir singing "You Raise Me Up." So here's a question - what is the connection between "You Raise Me Up" and the Eurovision Song Contest? Answers tomorrow. I wonder if anyone can answer what is admittedly a rather vague connection.

Most Monday mornings I walk from Hethersett to Wymondham to go for a ramble with my cousin. It's about two and a half miles each way. Add on the extra miles for the ramble and it's about an eight mile walk.
On the way I walk past a trailer/caravan park interestingly named Brooklands. I have to say I'm not a great motor racing fan but I do know that Brooklands was famous in its day. In 1907, it became the first circuit in the world to host a 24 hour motor race.
Brooklands was/is situated close to Weybridge in Surrey and was the world's first purpose-built banked motor racing circuit. It was also an airfield, producing military aircraft such as the Wellington.
The last race at Brooklands was in 1939 and today the circuit is part of Brooklands Museum - a museum of motoring and aviation.

Received an early Christmas present yesterday (yes you heard right). This was a Night Views Calendar for 2022. My cousin also gave me one of these last year. It's put together by local astrophotographer Shaun Reynolds who has produced some stunning images.
Not only are they stunning, they are also super mind numbing. One image is engagingly entitled NGC 1333 in Perseus. This is described as a reflection nebula. Apparently this is 1,000 light years from earth. One light year is approximately 6 trillion miles away, so this is 6,000 trillion miles away and Shaun has captured it in a photograph. Now that is mind boggling and something I just can't get my head around. Getting to Great Yarmouth seems a long way to me!
