But of all the places we have been, the one that captivates me as much as anywhere is just 36 miles and an hour's drive away.
I have mentioned in the past that if you want to rejuvenate the soul, just go to Southwold. At this time of the year its busy but quiet if that makes sense. There are still plenty of people around but the place isn't overwhelmed. There's plenty of room to park and walk and the distance soon mounts up. Yesterday we did over seven miles without really noticing it.
Fish and chips overlooking the sea and beach. I particularly like the harbour area. Yesterday I used the phrase higgledy piggledy and that seems a very apt description for an area of ramshackle boats, fish shacks. It reminded me of many seaside places we have been to in the USA. Of course Southwold is the original.
I have published just a few of the 150 photographs taken in Southwold. If you want to see the full gallery please go to my You Tube channel at:

How photography has changed. In the old days (a phrase I hate because who defines when the old days started) It would be about 20 snaps in the whole day and then winding the film back, parcelling it up and posting it and waiting a couple of weeks for the prints to return, having no idea how good, bad or indifferent they will be. Some came back out of focus and went straight into the bin. Now I dash off 150, come home and feed them straight into the computer, wipe out the duff ones and then put some of the others online - job done.
Yesterday I rolled back the years a bit by going down to the Memorial Playing Field to take a photo of a presentation to Ritchie Mannington who has broken the appearance record for Hethersett Athletic Football Club. He was making his 468th appearance and has been playing for the club from youth football and is now 34 years of age.
I was chairman of the club for many years and am now an honorary life member. The presentation is pictured above. It shows Ritchie with team manager Michael Lemmon and club chairman Neal Luther.
