I'm not sure I can really explain that comment. Take the car somewhere and it's all too easy. You start from home and you end up (hopefully) at the place you are going and then finish off at home again. Have to take the bus and walk awhile and you feel much more of a sense of achievement and adventure.
Same with when it's raining. There's a feeling of achievement when you have braved the wet and got home into the dry. Am I making sense? Not at all I hear you shout.
I remember the satisfaction there is of getting dry after getting wet (what is he on about?). Take for example a cruise we did to Alaska. We were in the capital and strayed quite a way from the ship and into the town. Suddenly it started pouring and we were in the middle of nowhere on a walk and got right royally soaked. Then everyone had the idea of getting back on the ship at the same time (may of course had something to do with the rain). So we had to join a long queue and get even more wet. But oh the feeling of enjoyment and relief when we were able to peel off all our clothes and have a hot shower and then go down for afternoon tea.
I think that was the day we went to a totem pole museum and a Russian Orthodox Church before the rains came. These are the days you remember as they are adventures.

I don't normally like unsolicited Facebook messages and sites that somehow seem to crop up all over the place but I have become hooked on one.
Somehow I kept getting sent cartoons entitled Pickles. They are American but the humour is very sharp. They feature an elderly couple by the name of Earl and Opal. Earl is, how shall we say, slightly henpecked but with the ability to fightback with some caustic humour. There are a few other family members including their daughter and grandson Nelson who occasionally make an appearance. Then there's the family cat and dog and a few assorted friends. I've become hooked on the humour. Have a look if you get a chance. I particularly liked the recent one where Opal asked Earl whether he wanted his pizza cut into six or eight slices. His reply was something along the lines of "I'm extra hungry tonight so you'd better make it eight."
I think Earl is sharper than you think.
I'm probably behind the times a bit here as the cartoons are syndicated all over the world and go back to 1990. They do indeed feature Earl and Opal Pickles who are a couple in their 70s. Problem is of course that in cartoon strips time stands still. They will always be in their 70s whereas in reality they would now be around 105!

Today's going to be one of those very busy ones. Had a long chat with Michael Delph yesterday. Mike is going to be talking to our Forget Me Not Cafe about his memories of growing up in Hethersett. Mike's mother Ruby was a regular attendee of our twice a month cafes until she died when in her nineties.
Mike has appeared a number of times with his band to sing rock and folk songs. This time he's coming along to talk and play a few acoustic songs with his guitar and I will be interrogating (sorry asking the questions). It should be a very interesting morning. We are hoping to record the event for posterity.
Then I'm popping along to the Queen's Head to talk to the new licensee along with the outgoing one - who just happen to come from the same family.
Then it's a haircut and the plumber's coming round to sort out a dripping tap and a shower that seems only to have two temperatures - scolding hot or freezing cold. Never say I don't live a real rock n roll lifestyle.
