A few days ago I wrote about 10-year-old Josh Nicol and his volunteer work in our village, particularly aimed at helping the elderly. Ably supported by dad Mike, Josh has been weeding, walking dogs, cleaning cars and much more as part of a school project.
We went to the party organised at Woodcote Sheltered Housing complex by the Hethersett Hearts charity and there helping to serve the food and drink were Mike and Josh.
Yesterday I met another wonderful young man in Ethan Hayes who raised £150 for the local PACT animal charity from a stall outside the shop. Ethan sold cakes, held a tombola and lucky dip and much more and said he found it "a real buzz."
I came across Ethan quite a few years ago before lockdown. He was raising money for PACT and has continued to do so ever since. He is a highly confident young man and it was a delight to talk to him.
The only problem was I had intended going to Ethan's fundraiser but stupidly put it in my diary for Saturday and not Friday. So I missed it by 24 hours. Thankfully was able to catch up with Ethan and mum Kerry yesterday.
Last night I wrote a piece about Josh and Ethan for the Eastern Daily Press newspaper. It was a delight to do so.
We had our own small jubilee celebration in Karen Close - nibbles and drink. That makes a hat-trick of street parties after VE Day and VJ Day.
Sadly the village picnic in the park event scheduled for today has been cancelled due to impending storms. That's a real shame. What would have been better than getting the village together for a mass picnic? We have one more invite before we close the curtain on our personal jubilee celebrations.
The pictures today are of Ethan and Josh.
