Looking back I'm proud of some of the work I did for Norfolk Constabulary. Dealing with the Media at major crimes was demanding and at times stressful but also hugely rewarding.
I suppose having been a journalist before becoming a press officer helped me to understand both sides of the coin.
In all my time with the police I never had any great issues with the press. As long as you kept them informed and in the picture they would treat you with respect. They could also be very supportive and helpful as I hope I have outlined in my previous two blogs.
Often we had to answer tough questions but very often you had been told what to expect before the cameras rolled. So you had a small amount of thinking time before going live.
I hated seeing myself on television or listening to myself on the radio.
One day my boys, who were both very young at the time, couldn't believe it when my voice came on the radio whilst I was driving the car. It took sometime to explain to them that the radio piece had been recorded the previous day.
On another occasion we were in Majorca or was it Menorca when we switched on the radio and once again my voice was there in an international news item.
But enough of my time with the police. Tomorrow it will be normal service as I waffle on again about this and that.
If there's a specific subject you would like me to blog about just let me know and I will do my best to write something of interest
