We are living in a country of terrible unrest. And why is that? To my mind it's due to the inactivity of the Government that seems to talk a good game but does nothing. Now I want to shout out that this isn't a political blog. I am not a member of the Labour party nor do I support any political party.
I see myself as a village activist who believes that party politics have no place in local decisions that affect us all. So the comments I am going to make below would equally apply to whatever party is in Government if I feel that they are making a right c--k up of things.
Picket lines, strikes, lack of funding, lack of caring. They all seem to be endemic in our country at the moment and if I hear a politician faced with all the facts answering every question by telling us all the things they have achieved or thrown money at I think I will scream.
Our country is broken and the people that could try to fix it are just so arrogant that they could never admit it might be their fault.
Former world champion racing driver Sir Jacky Stewart was on television yesterday talking about dementia. His wife is living with it and he railed against the Government's promise of funding which is never delivered. It was the same with Motor Neurone Disease. Funding was promised but delivery veered from the slow to the non existent.
It's easy to make promises with empty words but what our country needs is promises with delivery and action. As Sir Jacky said "The Government promises lots but delivers very little and it's all empty words."
We have an MP in Richard Bacon who may as well be invisible for all that he does representing our area. I have mentioned this so many times but Mr Bacon's website is still welcoming our new Prime Minister - Liz Truss. Here is a man totally out of date who has announced that he will be standing again at the next election. It will be interesting to see what he claims he has done over the past five years to warrant re-election.
At times I genuinely feel like screaming at the inactivity of people supposedly running our country. Many of them are so far out of touch it beggars belief. It's all left to an army of volunteers to keep everything working - people who do things for the sheer love of it and don't get paid a penny for doing it. In fact in most occasions it costs them money. This is an altruism that national politicians will never be able to understand.

Having suffered the film Tar we decided to pay another visit to the cinema to see if we could find something a little more entertaining. And we certainly did. Loved the film "A Man Called Otto." Yes it was pure schmaltz. Yes it was a tear jerker but it was also fun, funny and warm and Tom Hanks as usual lived in his character like very few actors can do. Forget the critics and just go and see films that appeal to you. That's what I have learnt over the past couple of weeks.

My day yesterday was rounded off by a meeting of the Friends of Hethersett Library of which I am vice-chairman.
We have a presentation coming up on February 16th which is one of probably five during the year. This will be a talk and presentation by Wymondham-based historian Georgette Vale who will be portraying former Wymondham Mayor and MP's wife Ethel Gooch.
The performance starts at 7 pm and tickets are just £5 on the door. The admission price includes refreshments at the end. The Friends will also be organising a quiz in October and a children's party in December.

I have been invited to a casino evening tonight at Hethersett Hall Care Home. Quite looking forward to that and I will tell you about it tomorrow. Hope the numbers stack up for us.
