A couple of days ago I walked into Wymondham to meet up with Janet Benjafield and her brother Dave McAleer. We had coffee and scones at the Courtyard cafe where I have been known to go a few hundred times in the past! The point was that when I looked at my watch it was almost 2 pm and we had been mardling for over three hours. The time and the coffees just flew by. Note for those not used to Norfolk words - to mardle is to chat in a friendly fashion.
Janet had suggested I might like to meet Dave as we are both music obsessives. The only difference is that Dave has written over 40 books on popular music. If you don't believe me just Google his name. He was heavily involved in the hit single books and the Guinness Books of Hit Singles etc etc. In addition, he has written sleeve notes for literally thousands of albums (that's albums as in vinyl long players).
We had a lengthy chat about the music scene, the music we like and much more and I will definitely be getting together with the duo for more coffee and cheese scones in the future. It was so nice sitting outside in the October sunshine and I came away with a real buzz. Even my bus home was there waiting. I couldn't face walking all the way home as well, although I did get off the bus a good half a mile from home to add a bit more to my mileage.
Every day I get a list of the people that have liked my blog and i would say that 95% are female. Is this significant I ask myself? Perhaps women read more online than men, but I do think it goes deeper than that.
I definitely have a female side and I think that's good. Maybe the topics I cover are of more interest to a female audience.
I often receive remarks about my blogs that almost reduce me to tears or have a great effect (affect?) on me. One came a couple of days ago. I won't embarrass the writer, but you can read the actual comment by going back a couple of days ago.
The writer told me that though we have never met or do not know each other, my blogs make her feel that we are old friends. What a wonderful thing to say. And I have to say I have made some new friends since I've been writing these mutterings.
Janet pointed out that I seem to have readers from all over the world and I pointed out in reply that I do seem to be big in Ontario.
It would be lovely to think that in the future I will meet more bloggettes.
