That seriously wrecked any plans to enjoy a day out. When we come here we usually have a day on the buses, travelling around with our free passes which are such good value for money.
We have a number of favourite routes. One way takes us to Bexhill on Sea with its lovely De La Warr Pavilion and arts centre and it's sea walks. A bit further along, Hastings' Old Town is always worth a visit.
But perhaps our favourite is to get the coastal bus to Brighton which gives stunning views over the South Downs. We might get off at East Dean and eat at the cafe or pub and enjoy their regular farmers' market and have another look at the blue plaque on a cottage that informs us that consulting detective and bee keeper Sherlock Holmes retired there. Further along there are numerous places to stop if you don't want to go as far as Brighton.
Rottingdean is one of our favourites. We last visited just as lockdown restrictions were being lifted a little and I remember the feeling of freedom we had sitting in a pub garden and enjoying a pint and something to eat.
But on this particular trip we were denied those enjoyable things by the weather and thinking about where Spring has disappeared to this year. Even when the rain abated a touch, there were heavy winds and it was cold.
As I write this we are hoping that we will be able to get off tomorrow for Spain as there are some suggestions of flights being cancelled due to numerous problems including a limit to the number of aircraft that can go across French airspace.
So next time I blog we could be enjoying the sunshine in Spain or be stuck in cold and wet Eastbourne.
At least our Europass tickets came back up on the mobile but that in itself poses a problem. Following our malfunction yesterday the other threequarters sent the organisation a message. The response was to tell us that when using the app we need to ensure that we have at least three bars of reception on our wi fi. I look forward to explaining that to a train conductor in Spain or Portugal when the app won't work.
