When the invasion of Ukraine is over (I refuse to call it a war) there will be lengthy discussians about whether Putin is a war criminal or not. Whether he is guilty of war crimes. Eventually (and probably years down the line) he may or may not be brought before a court where there will be arguments and counter arguments.
This makes me very angry. Ask the thousands of Ukrainians who have lost homes and loved ones whether Putin is a war criminal. It doesn't take a genius to work out that this man is an insane monster who has total disregard for human life. Add to that the fact that he is a blatant liar and you don't have a very good human being.
When the Second World War ended we were told "there can never be another Hitler in Europe" and no man can ever have the power or hold over his people like Hitler. How wrong they were.
Now this insane monster (Putin) tells the world that all the devastation he has caused, all the innocent people he has killed with his orders, is a film set staged by the West and Western journalists. You would need to be as mad as him to believe that even for a nano second.
He is suggesting that in order to cheapen his evil regime, western journalists and film makers have made up wrecked cities, have provided actors to act out this grotesque scenario and Russian troops are in reality bringing human aid to Ukraine rather than raping and murdering.
The Russian people must either be totally brainwashed or so naive it isn't true. Of course they aren't being allowed to see the pictures and media coverage that we are seeing but surely they cannot believe that Putin is a saviour or a hero.
There needs to be no discussions as to whether Putin is a war criminal - OF COURSE HE BLOODY IS. He became a war criminal when he illegally invaded a peaceful country.

Ridiculous soap storyline alert.
On Coronation Street at the moment Nick Tilsley is concerned that his son Sam is playing too much chess. Sam is no longer interested in space and astronomy and is obsessed with playing chess. He reads books on the subject and regularly plays Roy at Roy's Rolls (that's the cafe by the way). That's a silly enough story on its own but on Monday we had Nick saying:
"You and Roy have been playing chess behind my back."
I can think of some parents who try without much success to stop their youngsters from playing computer games being very happy if they played chess instead.

I see that a number of new symptoms have been accepted as being part of the COVID family. To all the other symptoms you can now add headaches, sore throat, a runny nose, feeling sick, shortness of breath and aching body. That pretty much now includes every aspect of a cold and/or flu known to mankind and symptoms most people suffer on a regular basis. When don't we have one or more of these? But now we are no longer testing we will probably not know when we have a cold, when we have flu, when we have COVID or when we are just feeling a little sorry for ourselves.

Yesterday being the first Tuesday of the month it was time to help at the Hethersett Forget-Me-Not group which is run by the Hethersett Dementia Support Group. We had a session of flower arranging. This was something new to me and not a skill I feel I will be developing, although I did come away with a colourful posy even if it did fall to pieces when I tried to move it!

Two missing Charles Darwin notebooks have been returned to Cambridge University library. Wrapped in brown paper they had a handwritten message of three words - "Librarian Happy Easter xxx"
Apparently the police are investigating. It's fascinating to know where these notebooks have been. I see a television documentary coming up.

I have a new rule when buying clothes. Always buy something that is too tight. I know it sounds ridiculous but that's the impetus to lose weight. And I'm pleased to say my waistline has gone from a 36 inch to a 32 which I just about managed to get into yesterday. Ok it was a squeeze but if I lose a few more pounds it will be a perfect fit. Only problem of course is that if I continue on this path all those 36 inch waist clothes will just be too big.
