There is nothing nicer than a piece of pork crackling cooked to perfection and brittle so that you don't break a tooth every time you bite into it.
So what is it that makes the perfect crackling. Well the Bird in Hand at Wreningham in Norfolk seem to know because theirs is scrummy.
Went there yesterday as part of the Le Paradis Commemoration Group talk - our first for over two years due to COVID. I use the word "our" advisably as I do little other than sit looking pretty (ok sit looking ugly) while the other so all the work. My work on behalf of the commemoration group goes on behind the scenes with web sites etc.
This was a chance for the other three members to get back into the swing of things and they did well Grasshopper.
The very nice roast dinner before the talk was excellent and that crackling was virtually melt in the mouth. Apparently it's a sudden blast of heat that sorts our good crackling from that horrible stringy tough stuff that you end up chewing for ever before spitting out.
How many things can this bloke waffle on about I hear you say.
The meeting was for ex Wymondham and Attleborough Round Tables of which I am one. So there were plenty of faces that I recognised despite not having seen most of them for over 30 years.
I would like to say that we didn't seem any older but I would be lying. We have all aged like good wine rather than cheap plonk.

Yesterday I made comments on a proposed care village in Hethersett which, bearing in mind the lack of facilities, would be totally inappropriate. I am hoping a lot of people will respond and if anyone wants to use or adapt my points please feel free to do so if it helps you to formulate a response.
- The plans are totally inappropriate for a village already straining with new development.
- The proposed development would be for elderly people putting a huge burden on medical facilities within the village that are already at breaking point
- The land is in the strategic gap between Hethersett and Wymondham and cannot therefore be developed. Any attempts to build on this land will be against current planning rules.
- New Road is not suitable for another major entrance/exit close to St David's Road. Getting onto the B1172 is already very difficult. The envisaged care village would increase the amount of traffic to a junction that is already straining to cope.
- Facilities in Hethersett have not kept pace with development and would be further exacerbated by a care village.
- The plan is totally inappropriate for such a rural setting.
