Whilst giving my garage a lockdown clean, I came across photographs that I thought had been lost. Many of these were family holiday snaps but quite a few were of Hethersett and I have already featured a number of them in previous blogs.
One set intrigued me because they clearly show a carnival in the village. I vaguely remember the event and, from the photographs, it seems likely that the floats ended up on the Memorial Playing Field. I obviously took the pictures but captured nothing of the celebrations on the park. Of course in those days of printed photographs there was a limit to how many you could take - today I probably would have thought nothing of crashing off a quick two or three hundred to give a full feel of the day.
Now I need some help. If I could track down the date of the carnival I could look it up in my diary and include some further details in a future blog. So does anyone reading this know of the year or better still a month and a year when this took place?
Looking at some of the people I recognise on the floats I would estimate it is sometime between 1990 and 1994. So over to you. I would love to hear from anyone with memories of the day or anyone recognising anybody in the photographs. As always click on the photographs to enlarge them.
With the June edition of Hethersett Herald full and almost ready for publication, this will make an interesting feature for the July edition.
