Yes yesterday was my release day from COVID isolation and I had so much lined-up that I was just a touch fearful that I would have the energy to do it all.
Thing was I didn't really and at a few points really struggled with energy levels, which came as something of a surprise. But first I did a lateral flow test which was once again negative. Those nice (!!!??) people from NHS Track and Trace phoned me on Wednesday to see how I was and to inform me that it would be fine to go out again on Thursday.
It was a funny feeling as I drove out of the drive that within 20 yards I had already gone further than any distance in the previous 11 days!
It may have been a touch stupid playing tennis but I took it easy, didn't go for any big shots and only played 75 minutes rather than my usual 120. I did have to stop at one point to catch my breath. I think as a result of that and the heat, I struggled for the rest of the day despite having a lunch date in Wymondham with me lovely wife (don't tell her I said that as it's rather soppy).
I rounded off the day with an appeal for men. Please let me explain. I met Michael Lemmon and Neal Luther from Hethersett Athletic Football Club to talk about their appeal for new players for the Saturday men's team. The team currently only has six players and has had to call off its first few fixtures.
For me this is a very sad state of affairs. I have so many great memories of the club from when I was a coach and chairman. We had some great days with the men's Saturday team, winning numerous trophies and awards on the way. But things aren't what they once were. The commitment of players is no longer there.
But as Neal said with the massive new development in the village there must be plenty of adult men who would like to join a new club and Hethersett is waiting for them. I filed a story for the local press during the evening and will reproduce it in one of my blogs once it has appeared.
In the meantime if you are reading this and would like to play for the team you can contact Michael Lemmon on 074848 95176 or on [email protected]
