I guess that getting people to sign up is the easy part. The difficult part is keeping the blog interesting enough to make you want to return and read every day.
I hope by making it a mix of village information, village history and other topics that grab my fancy it will have something of interest to everyone. I know my pieces on my childhood memories have been popular, so I will be doing some more of them over the coming weeks.
If there is any topic you would like me to write about - either Hethersett or non Hethersett related - please let me know and I will do my best.
We start today with that statue of Alan Partridge in Norwich. Set off from home yesterday to see grandson play football and the weather was awful. Got frozen and thoroughly wet and it reminded me of all those Saturday and Sundays spent standing on a touchline over the past 30 years or so (will write more about this at a later date).
Then it was into Norwich where the weather was equally awful. So made a quick trip to the Forum to capture those photos at the top of the page. It's a very interesting piece of art. I am not an Alan Partridge fan and find the character spectacularly unfunny - but that's just me. I do think that the guys who cast this statue have captured the essence of the Steve Coogan character, although, for me, the plinth was too large and detracted from the actual statue - but that's nit picking and I don't want to detract from the fun of this concept. There were a lot of people taking photographs and there certainly would have been a lot more had it been a nicer day.
My story on the impending re-opening of Hethersett King's Head appeared yesterday in both the Eastern Daily Press and Norwich Evening News Newspapers. A copy of the cuttings are below.
Finally today. I have forgot over the past couple of days to give a plug to the hazardous chemicals amnesty event over three days at Ketteringham Recycling centre. It's on again today from 9 am to 5 pm. You can take along chemicals, paint etc. I have used this service in the past and the queues can be quite extensive. I have found it best to go either at the start or towards the end of the day.
