Not a lot on the face of it. I can't play the drums like Ringo. In fact I can't play the drums at all. Ringo says that he has great timing. I have a wireless controlled clock that changes time every hour or so. Suddenly for no apparent reason the hands will start whizzing around in an out of control and quite random way. You look at that damn clock and think you have half an hour before you need to go out for an appointment and two minutes later you are three hours late. So let's park Ringo there for a while.
I have mentioned Chris Ross before. He's the East End poet I came across entirely by accident on Facebook and I fell in love with his poetry and his general good-natured humour that you often get from East End boys.
He reminds me of my Uncle Tom who wasn't my Uncle at all. Not really Uncle Tom was a cockney and a really charismatic character. His wife who I called Auntie Gladys was actually my cousin if I've got relationships correct. She was my grandmother's brother's daughter. See how complicated these relatives are, relatively speaking. She was Not Uncle Tom's second wife. His first died. Must work more on my family tree. But let's park Chris Ross there for a while.
I have no connection with Middlesbrough FC or their fans. Went to Middlesbrough once and didn't like it much. So let's park them there for a while.
And that leaves me and you know what I'm going to say. Let's park him here for a while.
So where do we go from here? You'll just have to stay with me on this one.
Yesterday morning I went to the gym again. I'm having to build up my running from scratch. I haven't done any for so long that I started with just one minute. Next session I did two. Now I'm up to five which sounds pathetic when thousands of people are running marathons or more. But I have to work it up again. The old muscles start to moan and groan, but that's enough about the other four fifths. I will eventually build up to 20 minutes or so. You soon get out of the habit of doing something.
Then we went down to Hethersett Hall where our Forget Me Not cafe goes once a month. This is in addition to the twice monthly meetings at the Methodist Church Hall. We had a good old chinwag. If you've never wagged your chin you don't know what you have missed.
One of our members David is going to talk at our next meeting about little hammers and I don't mean child supporters of West Ham Football Club (stop bringing football into everything I hear you say). David was an upholsterer and I will be asking him a few questions about his trade and yes he will be showing his hammers.
I might well preface the talk with the song "If I Had a Hammer." Which reminds me, we will also be having a music quiz. If you live within striking distance of Hethersett, why not pop along on the first Tuesday of February at 10 am in the Methodist Church Hall. You will be assured of a warm welcome, not to mention coffee/ tea and biscuits.
At my next port of call I was asked if I was ok and not being in too much pain.
"I'm enjoying every minute ," I replied which brought a smile to two faces. Where was I?
I guess it's time to explain the connection between me, Ringo Starr, Middlesbrough supporters and Chris Ross.
It simply came from comments made either on television or on You Tube.
I listened to an interview from last year with Ringo Starr where he was asked how he kept rounded and down to earth and more or less said that it was just his personality which had no airs or graces. Chris Ross said a similar thing on You Tube about being recognised and all the attention he receives which he loves "I can't understand it. I'm nothing special, I'm just me," he said.
I like to think that's how I am with anyone I meet. But as usual only you can tell. But I do seem to have a similar outlook to Ringo and Chris.
Ringo said that none of his family calls him Ringo. Apparently they call him Richard which I guess in itself keeps him grounded as it's the name he was born with.
As for the Middlesbrough fans. Well last night they had a cup semi final against Chelsea. They interviewed a few fans and one said something along the lines of.
"In life you can be either an optimist or a pessimist. Whatever is going to happen will happen but the optimist will have much more enjoyment getting there than the pessimist. Of course that's true with both good and bad things.
Sadly the optimism of the Middlesbrough fans had no foundation as they got walloped 6-1.
Finally today one from the "that's a stupid thing to say category." Have been watching some of the Australian Open tennis. Matts Wilander who is a former world number one and now a commentator was talking about two players from Ukraine. I didn't believe it when he actually said:
"The war came at the wrong time for these players."
That rather suggests that Mr Wilander considers there's a right time for war.
