Where or how does A Day At The Races follow A Night At The Opera? Answers tomorrow unless somebody would like to pop the answer in the comment section.
On Friday afternoon I popped along to the flower festival Fit For A King which continues today and tomorrow in our parish church.
It was a lovely way to spend an hour, particularly after lunching at the Queen's Head.
I started to walk home and it was a rather surreal experience. The storm clouds were gathering and it became very dark and I felt as though I was walking through a tunnel. I was just hoping I could get in before the rain started and I made it by about two minutes before it hammered down.
I put some of the photos taken in the church on the All Things Hethersett website and they are also featured here.
Now back to the day at the races. It was eldest son's stag do. So we went to Newmarket for the 2000 Guineas classic. It rained all day and there was a huge crowd. It was very cramped and very noisy but I managed to get three winners from the eight races and made a profit.
And so to the next leg of the travelogue.
I should be charged with the offence of not charging.
What's the idiot on about I hear you ask?
Well I'm in charge of the electronic charging of devices but on Easter Sunday I was negligent in not charging enough up. So on a very hot day firstly my camera ran out, then my phone ran out and finally the other threequarters' phone ran out.
As a consequence to get back to our apartment we had to go old school and consult a map which just about got us back with a couple of deviations due to the fact it was a hop on, hop off bus map that you had to turn upside down to make any sense of.
We did have a few problems with the apartment like the door lock disintegrating when I tried to lock it before we went out. The keys seem to have a mind of their own and the locks just wouldn't play ball.
You need much longer than one day to see Cordoba and enjoy it's long and involved history and it's many historic buildings.
The old town is quaint with winding narrow streets closed to vehicles. There are nice walks along the river but being Easter Sunday, we were unable to go inside the cathedral because there was some kind of civic service going on.
It was a strange affair that involved a procession that featured women and children dressed from head to foot in white robes. I assumed they were women and children by their size and later found this out to be true. It was all a tad frightening as they looked like members of the Ku Klux Klan but actually had nothing to do with that evil organisation. Many other people have pointed this out in the past.
Boys and girls held what appeared to be balls but then we thought they were round candles because they kept bending them into a flame carried by those dressed as members of KKK. See how confusing this is?
We then worked out that for some reason the round objects were capturing wax from candles held by the KKK - all very confusing.
Apparently it's all about penance and religious brotherhoods but I still have to find out why kids apparently collect wax. Those behind the masks are celebrating religious penitence without being identified. Perhaps I should do that when we go to Carrow Road to watch Norwich City play. After all that's certainly a punishment.
We spent the best part of seven hours walking round the old town including the Jewish area where the streets were very narrow.
We ate just off the Jewish part where we had Frittata, a huge plate of tomatoes with herbs and a plateful of roasted vegetables. Later in the day we went to a bar for some beer. It was pretty hot, peaking at around 33 degrees, although early morning it was much fresher and cooler.
When I got back to the apartment my shirt was soaked in sweat but the heat was nowhere as insufferable as that experienced towards the end of last year in Singapore where humidity was so high as well.
I took to using my mobile to take photos when the camera seized up. I don't like taking photos with a mobile due to the glare on the screen which sometimes makes it difficult to see what is being taken. Give me a camera any day.
