The village litter picks began again, there was an afternoon fete, the village teams were playing cricket and Hethersett Hawks Cycle Speedway Club was raising money with a 24 hour marathon cycle ride.
Add to this a Memorial Field with bowls and croquet and youth football training and it's all go again (thankfully).
I wandered down to the Methodist Church car park shortly before 10 am to take a picture of the litter pickers who were cleaning up the village under the auspices of the parish council and the Hethersett Environmental Action Team (fittingly known as HEAT).
They were joined by a number of members of staff from McDonalds restaurant at Thickthorn who were doing their bit for local communities and helping to clean up the village. This was admirable to see.
I couldn't make the youth club fete and dog show as I had a memorial event to go to on Old Buckenham Airfield and what an event it was. My third cousin John Mountain who lived in the village died suddenly a number of months ago. At that point I wrote a tribute piece which appeared in the local press. With COVID restrictions relaxed sufficiently the memorial event was held.
There was no sadness, just bright colours and joy. There was a flypast by historic aircraft including a Spitfire from RAF Brize Norton, a magician, comedian/entertainer Ben Langley, a display of Lotus Cars, a visit from the East Anglian Air Ambulance and the Norfolk Accident Rescue Service. John was a big supporter of the two charities and also worked at Lotus for many years. So skilled was he with electrical systems that he was given the nickname Magic.
So on Saturday we all raised a glass or two to Magic Mountain and had the kind of good time that would have put a smile on his face.
Dropped in to watch some cricket at Flordon. Hethersett First team were away and recorded yet another win to push themselves into third place in the Norfolk Alliance First Division with exactly half the league season complete. We watched some of the second team who went down to a disappointing 75 run defeat at the hands of Sandringham after a painfully slow start to their innings.
Rounded off the day on the Memorial Field where the cycle speedway club was holding a 24 hour marathon which will continue until 3 pm today. They are aiming to ride the equivalent of Hethersett to Paris - about 12,000 laps of the track.
I hope you enjoy some of the photographs of yesterday's events. Reports on all of them will be in the next edition of Hethersett Herald which should be available from Wednesday.
