You see a few people have said they enjoy my travelogues as it makes them feel they are there with me, although how we would get 600 people on our balcony I'm not sure.
But back to Tropea which in 2021 was voted the best village in the whole of Italy due to its beauty, its history and it's culture. So after over 15 hours of travelling yesterday it was good to have a bit of a relax ahead of some hectic sightseeing days ahead.
Spent the morning on a walking tour of the town. The views from on high of the sea looking across to the volcanic island of Stromboli were marvellous. You could actually detect some plumes of smoke coming from the volcano.
Had the biggest ice cream imaginable. "I told you to get me a small one," barked the other three-quarters. Thing is this was the smallest they did. My cone decided to disintegrate in the middle, dropping with its lemon and banana content onto the floor. I promptly picked it up and started eating again. What's a small amount of Italian dust between friends? They really should make these cones stronger.
So I hope you like the photos of the town. You can make up your own mind about whether it's the prettiest in Italy. Personally I don't have too many to compare it with so I'll just have to take the judges' word for it. There are certainly many many coffee bars and restaurants and goodness knows how they all make a living, although I assume they get much busier at the height of summer.
