Last night went to see Starsailor who are always good value for money. But once again it raised the thorny question of the farce of encores.
James Walsh and his band played for something like one and a half hours before announcing their final number. They then left the stage only to return to play two further numbers which were always part of their set list. It is easy to work this out as the tour is called "The Greatest Hits" and the accompanying CD is entitled Good Souls The Greatest Hits. But as they left the stage for the first time they still hadn't played one of their most popular songs "Good Souls." So it was obvious they were going to come back to finish off with that.
I much prefer the previous week when Ian McNabb of The Icicle Works announced they weren't going to do any encores or "that going off and then back on" rubbish but would just continue to play until they either ran out of time or material. They played over two and a half hours in two sessions.
Spent today with our grandson at Colchester Zoo. It was a delight, although at times we were left to play the "can we find an animal game."
