Many people featured were almost instantly identified and I also know quite a few myself.
Most importantly, thanks to some amateur detective work (and lots of help from readers), I was able to tie down a date for the carnival which took place on May 3rd, 1993.
So I then checked my diary entry for this day which turned out to be Bank Holiday May Day on Monday 3rd, hence the appearance of a maypole on one of the floats.
My entry for that day is rather matter-of-fact. After a morning of gardening I had the following to say:
"I got ready to go to the park to watch the carnival procession and go to the fete. Had to wait for the procession. It was quite good and short. The fete was surprisingly good and there were plenty of stalls. I spent some time on the Middle School PTA stall and then a time looking round and an hour standing in the candyfloss queue. At the end of that we had had enough and so came home."
And that as they say was that. The candyfloss stall as mentioned would almost certainly have been run by Hethersett and District Lions' Club. I believe at this time I would have been vice-chair of the Middle School PTA, hence my appearance on their stall.
Now for some of the names of those photographed. Thanks to everyone who sent in names for people they recognised. Those pictured included - Christine and Katie Slater, Angela Farrington, Helen Baxter, Anne Cathersides, Karen Stradling, Sam West, Neville Greenhalgh, Sue Eagle, Jackie Parker, Vivienne Horobin and Ollie Manington. I will have more names for you in my evening blog.
In the meantime, I include another memory Lane photograph from my collection. We think this group was taken at one of the many family fundays held at Whiterails Farm in Great Melton courtesy of David and Lorna Richardson. Lorna is the lady with the green top.
These were usually Hethersett Methodist Church run events and I remember being closely involved. In those days I knew a number of Norwich City footballers through my job as sports editor of the Norwich Mercury Series of newspapers. So I remember John Deehan and Mick McGuire both opening events here and refereeing five-a-side competitions. I can also remember playing in one of them.
I left what was Eastern Counties Newspapers in 1989 to join the community relations department at Norfolk Constabulary. So this photo could have been taken between 1987 and 1990. Again I would be very happy to have a full date or names of anyone you recognise.
