Two things that I find slightly disappointing about Southwold involves hand washing and car parking.
We have all been told during lockdown about the importance of regularly washing our hands with soap and hot water. We should do this for at least 20 seconds whilst singing Happy Birthday even if there's nobody we know celebrating on this specific day!
At least two public loos in Southwold were open today and over a lengthy visit I needed to visit both. Both had signs up stating "Please wash your hands." Sadly this wasn't possible. The handbasin taps at both locations cut off after less than a second. I scarcely got the word happy out before the flow stopped.
There were no plugs, so putting water into the basin wasn't possible. Push the tap top down with you left hand didn't give enough water to even wet a quarter of your right hand and vice versa. So much for trying to follow Government guidelines!
Car parking seems to be just silly. To park in the Harbour car park or main car park near the pier costs roughly £1 per hour. I didn't actually check the Pier Car Park but the Harbour is definitely £1 per hour. Leave you car alongside Southwold Common or down Pier Avenue and many of the other side streets and there is no charge and places are readily available. As a result there were no cars today in the Harbour park when we passed. That means an income of zero for the council. Wouldn't it be better to charge something like 20p an hour and have some cars in there meaning at least some income?
Anyway enough of that. Hope you enjoy my second gallery of photographs.
