Pretty much the full menu is now available. One of the things I am hoping to do for the next Herald is a rundown of what is now open, when it is open and what restrictions, if any, there will be. By the end of the coming week, face coverings will be compulsory in shops, obviously not in cafes and restaurants although I have tried inventing a face mask with a small hole through which a straw can be poked, thus enabling everyone to enjoy a pint in safety!!!!
Back to Janey's. I applied my scampi scale of inflation which I mentioned a few days ago. My premise has been that the serving of scampi can be used to gauge the rate of inflation. Over the past couple of years the price in pubs and restaurants of scampi and chips has gone up whilst the number of pieces has gone down, thus increasing the gap between supply and demand. Down in Sussex, it was the best part of £12.50 for just seven pieces. At Janey's it's a much better value £8.99 for 10 pieces.
Getting back to the Herald, the next edition, which will be online at the end of the month, will have lots of features, news and photographs as always and a special article on the coming closure of Woodside School's iconic and very unusual building.
The building is due to close its doors on Friday, although the children are already on holiday. When the school re-opens its doors in September it will be in a sparkling new purpose built building on the new North Hethersett area. So we will have lots of memories and articles from the past 46 years and a chat with staff as they prepare to leave the iconic building which was opened by the then Minister for Education Margaret Thatcher.
Finally today I include the photographs of myself and Mrs Editor taken by Warwick Cooper as part of his Project Front Door idea. Hannah Harrison has written a lovely article about this project in the current edition of Hethersett Herald which you can read at www.hethersettherald.weebly.com.
Please notice in the first photo that I am holding a laptop which represents my trade whilst Mrs Editor is brandishing a hoe either as a threat or due to an impending session of gardening.
