The Norfolk Cricket Board have to be congratulated for at least getting some kind of competition going. But just to explain.
Hethersett were due to play in the Norfolk Alliance Division One - the highest level in the club's history. But Covid put paid to both the Norfolk Alliance and the Norfolk Leagues. Once lockdown restrictions were relaxed a special competition was arranged with 17 groups of six teams. The groups were set-out according to ability and league standings and Hethersett's first team found themselves in group four which they won comfortably winning four of their five games and only being prevented by the weather from achieving a clean sweep.
The top team in each of the first four groups then went into a trophy competition. Hethersett were due to play Swardeston's Second team in the final for the winners of group three and group four yesterday. As a result of the washout the clubs will share the trophy.
So instead of watching cricket I spent the afternoon finishing off the latest Hethersett Herald which will now definitely be published by Monday. It's another bumper edition, running to 137 pages. I hope readers find it packed with information, news, stories and features from the village.
I was sent some posters about the re-opening of Hethersett Library and these will be featured in the magazine. I will be popping along on Wednesday for the first day of the library's opening and will let you know how things pan out.
