A few weeks ago I was asked if I would consider becoming a community contributor for the Eastern Daily Press, Norwich Evening News and Wymondham and Attleborough Mercury providing the publications with stories and features from Hethersett.
I took a nano second to think about it before saying yes. As for the reasons - well those included a wish to increase the coverage of Hethersett in the Media.
The result so far has been excellent. If you want to see what has already appeared just google the three newspapers mentioned and then pop Hethersett into the search box. One of the cuttings is featured above. It has given me a great thrill to see my stories appearing in local newspapers once again. There are some things that never lose their sense of wonder and for me that includes seeing my work in print. I get the same thrill as I did almost 50 years ago when I was a very young journalist working on my first newspaper - the Lowestoft Journal in Suffolk.
I find working once again on behalf of such established newspapers gives me some credibility and the great thing is I can continue to own and edit Hethersett Herald, an e-magazine I am very proud of.
In three more editions Herald will be five years old. It's been a momentous five years for the village and I will be looking to produce a bumper edition in November highlighting just some of the features, topics and news that we have featured over 60 editions. In the meantime the August edition will be out at the end of this week.
Back to the community contributor function. I'm always on the lookout for stories to pitch to the publications and which can also be used in Hethersett Herald. If you have any ideas for news items or features I would love to hear from you. Maybe you or your family are doing something special for charity or you have something special happening in your life. We are a large village now and there are hundreds of vibrant stories out there. If you want to contact me I can be contacted at [email protected].
