We set off from Beaumaris, heading for Liverpool with the idea of stopping at Colwyn Bay. It was somewhere we just plucked off the map before turning inland and back into England.
At first we couldn't find the beach or the bay and ended up driving round the town a couple of times and also up a dead end. Eventually we ditched the cars out of frustration. There seemed to be no signposts indicating the beach area.
Eventually we did find our way on foot but we suggest the local council needs to improve their direction signs. What we found was a massive swathe of sand and promenade that was quite pleasant but empty. The beach was just the kind of area grandson Elliot would have loved a game of cricket on.
We found a pleasant small café to have another East Out to Help Out 50% off breakfast and then it was back to the car for the remainder of the journey to Liverpool. I was surprised how rural the approaches to Scouseland were. It was only the final four or so miles that we had to drive through built up areas.
The journey took us through the Mersey Tunnel. It seemed to go on forever - much longer than the Dartford Tunnel under the Thames. I don't remember it being that long before when we took the bus from the centre of Liverpool to Port Sunlight - a fascinating place by the way.
Once again we were staying at the Dolby Hotel in Chalinor Street which is a 10 minute walk from Albert Dock. The Dolby is small but clean and it has a nice terrace overlooking the Mersey which is ideal for a pint or two of Guiness. And at around £37 for a double room for the night you can't knock it!
Did some shopping in Liverpool One and then had an evening meal at the PanAm restaurant on Albert Dock. Today we walked eight miles without really trying.
