Everything relented and we reached Market Drayton where we were spending the night with friends who have just moved from Hethersett.
Market Drayton struck me as one of those idiosyncratic places that you need to spend some time in before you really get to know it. But we only had time for a quick lunch as a canal boat waited. We spent a lovely afternoon on the canal with our friends driving and getting very wet whilst we stayed in the dry and drank coffee stout which is actually dark beer that smells and tastes of coffee. How do they do that?
I see a Norfolk whiskey distillery just a handful of miles from us has been named the best single malt in the world. All sounded great until we were told that the contest to find the best in the world was organised by a whiskey magazine that just happened to be published in Norwich.
I don't like whiskey at all but I really feel I should try this one just to find out why it is so revered.
Couldn't help but think that Ken turned down the opportunity to run away with his mistress on her narrow boat - one for the Coronation Street fans.
When I get memories coming up on my daily blog Facebook feed I usually take the best, usually consisting of photographs, and put them on my other Facebook page and then get in a muddle. I get into a terrible muddle with Facebook sites. Will reveal all tomorrow and perhaps mention the new news reader on BBC local news who has a strange claim to fame.
And tomorrow I will publish some photos of our canal trip. It looks as if it might rain for most of this holiday so our visits may be cut short. Today we will be stopping off at Much Wenlock which we liked the last time we were over this way.
